Plumbing Issues You Might Encounter

Preventing or correcting plumbing problems will be one of the least enjoyable responsibilities of owning a home. Homeowners that are highly informed when it concerns the types of problems residential plumbing is prone to experiencing will be more prepared to keep their home's plumbing functioning.

Running Faucets

Faucets that run when they are turned off can be one of the leading causes of wasted water. In some instances, it can also lead to water damage due to the sinks overflowing. Running faucets are often a result of a failed seal. Replacing this seal should stop the water from running uncontrollably. However, it will require parts of the faucet to be taken apart. For those that lack the skill to successfully do this, a plumber will be able to repair faucets with this problem for a small fee.

Hair Clogs

Hair going down the drain can be a constant source of clogs for those that have long hair. Unfortunately, regularly using clog removers can damage the lining and seals of the pipes, but you may be able to address hair clogs without the need for these chemicals. For example, pouring hot water down the drain and vigorously using a plunger on the drain may be able to free the clog. Preventing this problem in the future may require the use of a drain strainer that can filter out hair before it can clog the drain.

Garbage Disposal Smells

When your garbage disposal starts to develop odors, it can make the entire kitchen smell. Furthermore, it may also attract a variety of pests to the kitchen, which can be extremely difficult to eliminate. Thoroughly flushing the garbage disposal with hot water after each use will be one of the most effective steps for preventing smells from forming as it will rinse away much of the organic material that could contribute to bacteria.

Low-Quality Water

If your home has water quality issues, it can lead to skin and health issues along with potentially damaging the plumbing. Homes with extremely old plumbing can be particularly prone to water quality issues due to degraded pipes. This problem can also impact homes with new plumbing as the water being supplied to the house may have quality issues. When the water quality problem originates with the water being supplied to the home, a whole-house filtration system can be the most cost-effective and efficient way of improving the quality. However, if the issue is due to the home's pipes degrading, filtration systems must be added to each faucet.
